Scisbo Messaging is a standalone real-time chat application for private DMs and group conversations, connected to Scisbo Dashboard through shared authentication, friends, and AI services.

The challenge
Embedding every communication concern directly inside the dashboard would tightly couple real-time delivery, group membership, message history, notifications, and AI processing to unrelated workspace features. The chat experience needed room to scale without making users manage another account.
Scisbo Messaging was built as a separate React and Vite application backed by focused Spring Boot services. Central authentication and a shared friends system make it feel native to the dashboard, while dedicated message, group, WebSocket, and AI services handle chat-specific workloads.
The solution
Messaging combines familiar chat interactions with platform-level identity and embedded AI, backed by services that separate delivery, history, membership, and intelligent processing.
Users can start one-to-one conversations with friends already connected through the dashboard, without rebuilding a separate contact list.
Group conversations support membership controls, group details, participant management, and focused notification preferences.
Emoji input and message reactions add quick, expressive feedback without interrupting the flow of a conversation.
Participants can invoke an assistant from the composer to summarize long discussions, identify members, or answer questions using chat context.
A dedicated WebSocket service manages live message delivery and presence-sensitive updates across private and group conversations.
Kafka carries message and group events between independently deployable services, while Redis caches frequently accessed conversation state.
